Another Successful Florida 4-H Dog
Project Scholarship Show The Florida 4-H Dog Project held another successful
4-H Dog Show on November 14, 2009 at the Florida State Fairgrounds. This show
benefitted the new Florida 4-H Dog Project Scholarship Fund. Money raised from
entry fees, donations and a raffle were enough to fund our $1,000.00 Florida
4-H Dog Project Scholarship for 2010. Dog show classes held at the Scholarship
show included Showmanship, Obedience, Rally and Agility.
The first
$1,000.00 Florida 4-H Dog Project Scholarship was awarded in July of 2009 to
recipient Kelsey Haupt of St. Johns County. Kelsey had been a 4-H member for 6
years, and for 3 years she participated in the 4-H Dog Project with her
labradoodle- Nonea. Kelsey said I am so grateful to receive this scholarship. I
am currently going to the University of West Florida in Pensacola. 4-H changed
my life in so many ways and has helped me coming in to the college world. I
would recommend the 4-H program to anyone, and if you love dogs join the dog
project!
The Florida 4-H Dog Project established an annual scholarship
to be administered by the Florida 4-H Foundation, Inc. This scholarship has
been established to provide financial assistance to a former 4-H member to
further his/her education. Any higher education experience is costly for young
people and their families. So, the opportunity to provide 4-H members with what
may be life-changing assistance is very much within our mission.
This
annual scholarship could be used at any community college, college, university,
or vocational school, since many young people benefit from a community college
experience before making the leap to a four-year university.
The
Scholarship will be awarded each year to an eligible applicant. The recipient
will be selected by the Florida 4-H Youth Development Scholarship Committee in
cooperation with the Florida 4-H Dog Project Scholarship Committee according to
all established criteria and procedures. Awards will be announced during the
4-H Congress in Gainesville.
Currently the Florida 4-H Dog Project is
funding the Scholarship from year to year, but our ultimate goal is to raise
$20,000 to make this a perpetual Scholarship. If you would like to make a tax
deductible contribution to the Florida 4-H Dog Project Scholarship Fund, please
make your check payable to the Florida 4-H Dog Project Scholarship Fund and
mail to Scholarship Fund Treasurer: June Lyness 409 Whitman Road Winter Haven
